Dog Friendly Restaurants in PortlandOften named the “Greenest City in America,” Portland, Ore., is a beautiful city with plenty of open space for you and your dog. After a long day of parks and hikes, you can enjoy a bite to eat at one of these dog friendly restaurants.

Note that due to health codes, dogs (with the exception of service dogs) are only allowed in restaurants’ outdoor dining areas.

1. Lucky Labrador Brewing Company – 7675 SW Capitol Hwy. (map), 503-244-2537

Started by a few local college graduates, the Lucky Labrador got its name because its founders thought of themselves as “lucky dogs” for having started their own brewery. According to the brewery’s website, its signature Lab logo represents its “friendly, neighborhood pub” atmosphere.

The menus at the Lucky Lab’s four locations are pretty consistent and feature hand-tossed pizzas that complement its wide selection of craft beer. Some of these aptly named beers include a “Black Lab Stout,” “Blue Dog Pale Ale” and “Dog Day IPA.”

Dogs are welcome to join their pet parents in the outdoor beer garden. The Lucky Lab is open every day from 11 a.m. to midnight, except on Sundays, when it’s open from noon to 10 p.m.

2. 21st Avenue Bar & Grill – 721 NW 21st Ave. (map), 503-222-4121

With a beautiful, open back patio, 21st Avenue Bar & Grill is a great place to grab some good food and enjoy a few drinks with your two- or four-legged friends. For dinner, the menu includes steamed Manila clams, roasted jalapeño and chicken macaroni, a barbeque bacon guacamole burger and chicken Cordon Bleu.

Yelp! reviewer Kimberly J. wrote, “This bar is much better in warmer weather… It’s also super dog friendly and I like to sit outdoors when I bring [my dog] with me.”

21st Avenue Bar & Grill is open weekdays from 3 p.m. to 2:30 a.m. and weekends from 11 a.m. to 2:30 a.m.

3. Laurelhurst Café – 4611 E. Burnside St. (map), 503-548-6320

A neighborhood café that’s kid, dog and bike friendly, Laurelhurst Café has a lovely outdoor seating area that’s great for enjoying an afternoon lunch. In addition, the café has free wifi and a bike pump for cyclists.

Its menu includes fresh panini sandwiches, Kettleman bagels, healthy burgers and house-made pastries. Some lunchtime favorites include organic quinoa with lemon vinaigrette and the Laurelhurst burger with thick-cut bacon and gorgonzola.

Alex G. had this to say about Laurelhurst Café on Yelp!: “Dog friendly – plenty of outdoor seating with a water dish and jar of dog treats out front.”

Open 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. every day except Saturdays and Sundays, when they open at 8 a.m.

4. Petisco – 1411 NE Broadway (map), 503-360-1048

Located in the NE Irvington hub, this neighborhood restaurant has a rotating menu that uses fresh ingredients. According to its website, Petisco is “a little slice of Europe in NE Portland.”

The lunch menu includes an “Angry Sicilian” sandwich with prosciutto, salami and sopressata; a portabello carpaccio with goat cheese and lemon-herb dressing; and a pork hash that features slow-roasted pork shoulder with sweet potatoes and peppers.

Well-behaved dogs are allowed to enjoy a meal with their pet parents in the outdoor dining area. Hours vary by day of the week, so be sure to check the Petisco website before grabbing a bite to eat there.
