One of the best and most fun holidays we celebrate is Halloween. We get to dress our dogs up in cute little costumes, much to their chagrin, and parade them around with pride – despite their protests.

Before you head out to buy that costume, make sure you keep these simple safety tips in mind.

Your dog’s costume should be comfortable. It should not obstruct his vision or hearing, and it definitely should not restrict his ability to walk. Do not tie anything around your dog’s neck as this could cause choking, or worse, strangle your dog. Be sure to remove any small, hanging pieces that your dog could easily ingest. Lastly, if your dog looks miserable and he is clearly uncomfortable, don’t make him wear his costume.

Without further pawdo, here are the top five stores to get Halloween costumes for your dog.

  • Petco - Petco has a large variety of costumes for pets of all shapes and sizes, and right now you can get 20-percent off your online order, but only if you order by Thursday, Sept. 19!
  • PetSmart - One of the best things about stores like Petco and PetSmart is that not can you take your dog to the store with you to try on his new Halloween costume, you can also pick up any pet supplies you need.
