dog friendly parks in san franciscoSan Francisco is typically known for clam chowder, the Golden Gate Bridge, the 49ers and the Giants, but did you know it’s also full of dog friendly play areas? From a park that goes right up to the water to secret gardens and Asian gazebos, here are three dog friendly parks in San Francisco.

1. Crissy Field – 1199 E. Beach, (map), 415-561-7690

This super pawpular pooch park has a great view, lots of happy dogs and a little area where your doggie can splash in the water. What more could you ask for? Yelp Reviewer Milton W. says, “Rain or shine, this place is like Disneyland for my dog Baron. Just seeing it from the car while we’re still driving has him whimpering to get out and jump in the water. There is so much room that it never really gets crowded with dogs. Even on the hottest days, I take him here in the afternoon; he could swim and frolic without many dogs bothering him. The waves here never get big so you don’t have to worry about your dog getting swept away like at Fort Funston.” With five stars, 537 reviews and tons of frolicking pooch photos on Yelp, this park should definitely be on your dog-friendly spots to visit!

2. Sutro Heights Park – 48th Avenue and Point Lobos Avenue (map), 415-561-4323

You’ll be greeted by winged lion statues as you enter this beautiful park. Be sure to stop by the Sutro baths and the eerie green garden. Yelp reviewer Susan D. said, “Beautiful beautiful beautiful… this park was such a perfect destination for yesterday’s lazy Sunday. We took our dog, a blanket, and a ball and spent an hour or so walking around, playing with the dog and sitting on the old estate fence. We were content to relax, soak in the sun, and enjoy the amazing views of Ocean beach, the coastline and the ocean itself.”

3. Golden Gate Park – John F. Kennedy Drive and Transverse Drive (map)

With plenty of squirrels and other animals to chase, your pooch will be in heaven at Golden Gate Park. Nestled in the midst of the city, it is the largest park in San Francisco. Yelp reviewer Vic. C said, “I came here a few weeks ago with my husband and two of our dogs. There are definitely a lot of places you can take your dogs to, and also places you are not allowed to take your dogs to (including the observatory and the walk ways near the observatory. These areas are marked).” Check out the gorgeous landmarks and the smiling furbabies here.
